This week the United States Congress is debating a mortgage bailout bill that will cost this nation more than $300 billion dollars. Although the bill is receiving widespread support, I wonder if it is because it is actually a worthwhile and cost-effective bill, or because it is an expensive boondoggle that legislators will be able to bring home to show voters in the November elections.

Georgia football player Michael Lemon has been charged with a felony in an alcohol-related battery incident Saturday night that sent a University student to the hospital with a severe eye injury, according to an Athens-Clarke County police report.
Warrants have been issued charging Lemon with misdemeanor battery and felony aggravated battery. If found guilty, Lemon could face 20 years in jail.

In response to Tulsi Patel's column "Vegetarian pleas for animals," (June 19), first, Ms. Patel, I do applaud you for having an opinion on this issue, as so many people are apathetic about many parts of our culture today. However, I hope you see that people like myself, who are hoping to enter the meat industry as an employee in the near future, are not writing articles in an attempt to convert vegetarians to meat-eaters.

Three Georgia football players found themselves in trouble with the law after two were arrested for simple battery and another was arrested and faces felony charges in another battery incident, according to University and Athens-Clarke County police reports.
Michael Lemon, a sophomore defensive end from Lizella, was arrested and charged with a felony in an alcohol-related battery incident that occurred last Saturday night and sent a University student to the hospital with a severe eye injury, according to an ACC Police report.

Georgia sophomore defensive end Michael Lemon was suspended indefinitely from the team following his arrest and charge with felony aggravated battery Thursday.
It was also announced sophomore guard Clint Boling will be suspended for the first two games of the season, against Georgia Southern and Central Michigan, resulting from a DUI arrest in May.

A University student was named first runner-up in the 64th annual Miss Georgia Pageant others placed in the top 10 at the Columbus RiverCenter for the Performing Arts.
Miss Historic Southern Plains Lauren Edmunds, a sophomore from Americus and first runner-up, was one of 11 University students competing in the pageant Saturday, June 28.
