People in today's society seem to have forgotten that choices have consequences. An article in "The Charlotte Observer" interviewed young mothers that were against giving their children the required vaccinations. According to the article, North Carolina's policy has loopholes that allow mothers to object for spiritual reasons.

There was a relative uproar around campus this past school year when a student was accused of killing a number of puppies and leaving them in a dumpster. There was a similar stir when the Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick was found to be leading a dogfighting ring.

This week the United States Congress is debating a mortgage bailout bill that will cost this nation more than $300 billion dollars. Although the bill is receiving widespread support, I wonder if it is because it is actually a worthwhile and cost-effective bill, or because it is an expensive boondoggle that legislators will be able to bring home to show voters in the November elections.

They say this move is to prevent "bandwidth hogs" from slowing Internet speed for average users. They say this change - they call it "Internet metering" - will make cable bills more like other utility bills. The cable companies plan to bill based on the amount of the service a consumer actually uses versus charging everyone the same rate.
