Nirvana Day

Six weeks after Christmas, life finally settles into normalcy. Spring Break is still weeks away, and you are already looking for an escape. Lucky for you, today is Nirvana Day, and no, it has nothing to do with the band.
In Buddhism, Parinirvana (Nirvana Day) is a celebration on the day of Buddha's death at the age of 80. It is a celebrated event because the death of Buddha is a sign of achieving freedom from physical existence and sufferings, known as reaching nirvana.
So why not celebrate? You know you need the break. Here are some ways to make this Nirvana Day your best yet.
Reflect at the reflection pond.
Visit the new Meditation Room on the third floor of Hendrix. It is reserved from noon to 5 p.m. every weekday, but it is open to anyone during the rest of the day.
Do some yoga in the amphitheatre.
Buy some Sweethearts at the store and use them to write letters to your friends. Yes, even the ones you aren't speaking to right now. You'll feel better.
Break out the crayons and a coloring book.
When you head to Java City, get tea instead of coffee.
Go buy some office supplies. You will feel much better after buying a new agenda.
Go buy some candles and take a hot bath. Place the candles around the tub and relax. Buddha would've done it….
Check out an intellectual book from the library. You'll learn a lot and look cool.
